DAISY at EU Green Week: Innovative Governance for Biodiversity

On 11 June 2026, Elsa Tsioumani from the Transdisciplinary Institute for Environmental and Social Studies represented DAISY at the Innovative Governance for Biodiversity session, organised by our sister project GoDigiBioS as part of EU Green Week 2026 in Brussels.

The event took place at Nordic House (Rue du Luxembourg 3) and brought together policymakers, researchers, practitioners and project partners to explore governance approaches that support ecological restoration and biodiversity recovery across Europe. The theme of EU Green Week 2026 — Investing in a Nature-Positive Economy — set the stage for discussions on how digital technologies and innovative governance can help reverse biodiversity loss and drive transformative change in society.

Elsa presented DAISY‘s work on assessing the transformative potential of social and technological innovations for biodiversity and equity, sharing key findings and lessons learned from the horizon-scanning and critical assessment processes. The presentation highlighted that innovation alone is not sufficient for transformative change; it must be embedded within coherent policy frameworks and enabling conditions that address structural, behavioural and cultural barriers, while placing equity at the centre.

Among the most promising pathways identified by DAISY are commons-based socio-technical innovations and community-based natural resource management systems; however, their uptake within the EU remains limited.

The session also featured a dedicated panel with GoDigiBioS partners, discussing how digital solutions, system dynamics approaches and collaborative T-Lab methodologies can support biodiversity governance across multiple European regions, including Matosinhos (Portugal), Ruse Province (Bulgaria), the Delta del Llobregat (Catalonia) and the Florence Plain (Italy).

DAISY and GoDigiBioS are Horizon Europe projects working towards transformative change for biodiversity. The event provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen synergies between the two consortia and contribute to the growing community of practice focused on innovative biodiversity governance across Europe.
