Not defined

Develops affordable sensors and methods to accurately measure farm-level methane and other harmful gas emissions.

Context

Farming produces significant amounts of methane, nitrous oxide and ammonia, but measuring these emissions accurately on individual farms is currently difficult and expensive. MARVELA develops low-cost sensors and models to track these emissions and tests practical ways for farmers to reduce them, across 25 real farms in seven countries.

Main objectives

1) Develop and validate low-cost sensors for on-farm gas emissions. 2) Test emission-reduction measures across 14 agricultural practices. 3) Improve region-specific emission data for official reporting. 4) Deliver an MRV toolkit and platform to support farmers and policymakers.
