Removing carbon from the atmosphere using the ocean is a promising climate tool, but we need reliable ways to check that it really works and doesn’t harm marine ecosystems. MAR-CO2 develops and tests measurement systems, alongside a digital twin of the ocean, to make ocean carbon removal transparent and trustworthy.
1) Co-design measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) tools for ocean carbon removal. 2) Test tools under real operational conditions with industry partners. 3) Assess ecological risks and co-benefits. 4) Support fair, transparent governance and public trust in these methods.
