Maps the state of European plant breeding research and designs a roadmap to strengthen it for a resilient, sustainable bioeconomy.

Context

Breeding better, more resilient crop varieties is essential for dealing with climate change, but European plant breeding research is fragmented and under-resourced. COLiBRI studies the current gaps and funding landscape, then designs a joint strategy to strengthen collaboration between researchers, breeders and farmers.

Main objectives

1) Map needs, gaps and funding for European plant breeding. 2) Cover all farming and breeding approaches, conventional and organic. 3) Develop a joint research and innovation roadmap. 4) Build a collaborative network linking research, industry, farmers and policymakers.
