Not defined

Explores how European bioeconomy initiatives can better balance environmental, social and economic trade-offs.

Context

Building a sustainable bioeconomy sounds simple but involves tricky trade-offs, like biomass use versus nature protection. BIOSCALES studies five diverse regions in Europe to work out how to extend product lifespans, reuse biomass in circular ways, and replace polluting products with bio-based alternatives, in a way that actually works locally.

Main objectives

1) Study bioeconomy trade-offs across five diverse European regions. 2) Co-design sustainability-optimised strategies with local stakeholders. 3) Assess techno-economic feasibility and stakeholder acceptance. 4) Provide self-assessment tools for other regions to replicate the approach.
