Not defined

Develops resilient, high-protein European crop varieties to reduce reliance on imported soybean for animal feed.

Context

Europe imports most of its high-protein animal feed, mainly soybean, creating supply risks and environmental costs. ProFEED screens over 130 varieties of soybean, lupin and alfalfa to find the most resilient, high-protein options, then tests them in real farm trials and animal feeding studies to reduce import dependence.

Main objectives

1) Screen 130+ protein crop varieties for resilience and protein content. 2) Validate results through multi-site field and animal feeding trials. 3) Build a digital platform and decision-support tools for farmers. 4) Reduce EU dependence on imported soybean meal by up to 30%.
