Scientists rely on a patchwork of national and international programmes to track how much carbon and greenhouse gas the world is emitting and absorbing, but this system is fragile and under strain. JOHN audits the current system, scouts new technologies, and helps plan a stronger, more reliable future monitoring network.
1) Audit the current state of the global greenhouse gas observing system. 2) Scout next-generation, lower-cost monitoring technologies. 3) Deliver near-term improvements to existing data value chains. 4) Develop long-term action plans and funding strategies for a stronger system.
