Designs and tests schemes that make construction product manufacturers responsible for reducing waste and boosting recycling.

Context

The construction sector produces a lot of waste. BUILDERS tests ‘Extended Producer Responsibility’ schemes — where manufacturers take more responsibility for what happens to their products after use — for items like flooring, pipes and bathroom fittings, to see what actually works in practice across different countries.

Main objectives

1) Design and test harmonised producer-responsibility schemes for construction products. 2) Pilot digital product passports and new fee structures. 3) Measure environmental, economic and social benefits. 4) Deliver policy recommendations and guidelines for EU-wide rollout.
