Studies pollution in the food and drink industry and demonstrates better ways to detect and reduce it.

Context

Food and drink production releases various pollutants into water, air and soil, including newer, less understood ones like microplastics and pesticide residues. PURE-FOOD studies these pollutants across six real production sites — from breweries to dairies — and tests improved detection and treatment methods.

Main objectives

1) Assess pollution across six food and drink sub-sectors. 2) Develop harmonised monitoring methods for known and emerging pollutants. 3) Demonstrate real-world treatment solutions at case-study sites. 4) Support healthier diets and improved environmental sustainability standards.
