Not defined

Develops locally sourced, non-dairy therapeutic foods to treat and prevent child malnutrition more sustainably.

Context

Many children with malnutrition don’t get treated because current therapeutic foods are costly, imported and often dairy-based. NutriLOC develops new food products using local ingredients like fish, legumes, spirulina and mycoprotein, aiming to make treatment cheaper, locally produced and better able to reach more children earlier.

Main objectives

1) Develop non-dairy therapeutic and supplementary foods from local ingredients. 2) Explore novel proteins like spirulina and mycoprotein. 3) Run clinical trials to confirm nutritional adequacy and effectiveness. 4) Inform policy and investment to scale up local production.
