Not defined

Demonstrates low-impact aquaculture combining fish, shellfish and algae to reduce environmental pressure on the sea.

Context

Most European fish farming focuses on a few high-impact species that need lots of wild-caught feed. AQUALICIOUS tests farming several species together — fish, shellfish, molluscs and algae — so waste from one becomes food for another, reducing pollution and dependence on wild fish stocks.

Main objectives

1) Demonstrate low-trophic and multi-species aquaculture at three sites. 2) Develop sensors and digital tools for production optimisation. 3) Assess regulatory, financial and social conditions for scale-up. 4) Study consumer preferences to support market uptake.
