Builds a coordinated observation network to monitor the Southern Ocean's role in regulating global climate.

Context

The Southern Ocean around Antarctica absorbs a huge amount of heat and carbon, but is under-observed and poorly understood. SYNCHRONY brings together international partners to build a more coordinated, technology-enhanced observing system, feeding better data into climate models and international policy.

Main objectives

1) Build a synchronised international Antarctic observing system. 2) Use AI and modelling to optimise data collection. 3) Make data more accessible via shared platforms. 4) Support evidence-based Antarctic and global climate policy.
