Context

Livestock farming both contributes to and suffers from climate change — cows produce methane, and sheep struggle with heat. RUMINATE looks for genetic and management solutions to reduce methane emissions in cattle and improve heat tolerance in sheep, without hurting animal welfare or farm income.

Main objectives

1) Reduce methane emissions from cattle through nutrition and genetics. 2) Improve heat-stress resilience in sheep. 3) Develop genomic tools to identify climate-resilient animals. 4) Deliver a decision-support tool for farmers based on validated on-farm trials.
