Not defined

Helps African countries produce their own therapeutic and supplementary foods locally to treat child malnutrition.

Context

Most food used to treat severely malnourished children in Africa is imported, expensive and not always well suited to local diets. LESS MALNUTRITION helps set up local production using regionally available ingredients like soy and chickpea, aiming to make treatment cheaper, more available and better tailored to local needs.

Main objectives

1) Map local ingredients and supply chains suitable for therapeutic foods. 2) Develop and test locally-made, WHO-compliant food products. 3) Run clinical pilot trials to confirm effectiveness. 4) Support policy changes to enable local production and distribution at scale.
