Develops future-proof technologies for controlled-environment farming (greenhouses, vertical farms) to grow healthier food sustainably.

Context

Growing food indoors — in greenhouses or vertical farms — can save land and water, but needs better technology to be efficient and produce nutritious crops. FIT4CEA develops sensors, AI and robotics for these systems, and studies new crops that offer more nutrition, not just higher yield.

Main objectives

1) Develop technologies for fossil-free, circular controlled-environment agriculture. 2) Investigate new crops for nutritional value, not just yield. 3) Integrate sensors, AI and robotics to boost efficiency. 4) Support farmers in adopting these systems through living labs and new business models.
