Instead of growing whole plants, COCO-AI grows plant cells in bioreactors to produce valuable natural compounds without using extra land. An AI system helps predict the best growing conditions, speeding up development. The project proves the concept with cocoa, aiming to scale from lab tests to large industrial tanks.
1) Build an AI system that predicts optimal cell-culture conditions. 2) Scale cocoa cell-culture production from lab to 10,000-litre bioreactors. 3) Deliver new secondary-metabolite products and prototype foods. 4) Publish open-source tools and datasets for wider industry use.
