Builds Europe's first innovation hub turning captured CO2 and hydrogen gas into sustainable food proteins.

Context

Gas fermentation is a new way to make food proteins by feeding CO2 and hydrogen to specially engineered microbes, instead of growing crops or animals. AIR2FOOD creates a shared European hub to develop this technology, producing proteins and fats used in everyday foods like whey and milk fat.

Main objectives

1) Build Europe’s first innovation hub for gas precision fermentation. 2) Demonstrate production of four protein and fat products from CO2. 3) Assess economic viability, sustainability and regulation. 4) Develop shared infrastructure and a regulatory sandbox to support start-ups.
