Supports community kitchens that combine local food sourcing with care for people facing food insecurity.

Context

Food insecurity is rising, and many existing food-aid services just distribute surplus food without addressing wider needs. ROOTED works with ‘Landed Community Kitchens’ — grassroots initiatives that cook with local, sustainable ingredients and welcome anyone regardless of income — to help them grow and shape supportive city policies.

Main objectives

1) Support a network of 50+ community kitchens across 20 cities. 2) Develop sustainable business models and urban infrastructure for these kitchens. 3) Test policy measures and governance models. 4) Reshape food environments to normalise community-led, inclusive food access.
