Context

Heatwaves harm sheep health, fertility and productivity, putting farmers’ livelihoods at risk. SheepHeatIT develops cheap, fast tools to measure how well individual sheep cope with heat, combines this with genetic data across many breeds, and uses the findings to guide breeding programmes for more heat-resilient flocks.

1) Develop low-cost tools to measure heat tolerance in sheep. 2) Build a multi-breed genetic dataset across diverse regions. 3) Identify genetic markers linked to heat resilience. 4) Deliver practical breeding guidelines and an open-access data platform.
