In this Hungarian case study of DAISY, our research supports the pilot and testing of the country’s first results-based agri-environmental scheme, which rewards farmers for achieving biodiversity outcomes more flexibly than traditional subsidies. By emphasising self-monitoring and drawing on farmers’ local and traditional knowledge, the approach enhances their agency and leads to more effective conservation. Our goal is to catalyse broader social-technological change by amplifying this seed innovation initiative within and beyond the case study.
